Istanbul 29 Mayıs University and Yarmouk University in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening academic and scientific collaboration, enhancing the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and carrying out joint initiatives in the field of language education.

Built on the strong academic and cultural relations between Türkiye and Jordan, the agreement seeks to strengthen communication between the students and academic staff of both universities, contribute to the quality of education and scientific research, and establish sustainable, long-term institutional cooperation between the two institutions.

Under the agreement, programs are planned to be developed for teaching Arabic to students of Istanbul 29 Mayıs University and Turkish to students of Yarmouk University. The two universities will also organize joint academic events and exchange academic and administrative expertise, language teaching methodologies, and examples of best practices.

Language education, proficiency examinations, and accreditation constitute some of the key areas of cooperation. In this context, the strong assessment and evaluation infrastructure developed by ARÖMER at Istanbul 29 Mayıs University in the fields of Arabic language teaching and proficiency testing will be brought together with TÜRÖMER’s experience in teaching Turkish and Yarmouk University’s academic expertise through joint projects and collaborative initiatives. The parties also aim to develop a system for the mutual recognition of language proficiency certificates in accordance with the applicable regulations of both institutions and to advance international accreditation efforts in this field.

Language exchange programs are also planned to provide Yarmouk University students with opportunities to practice Turkish with native Turkish speakers, while students of our University will have opportunities to practice Arabic with native Arabic speakers. In addition, opportunities will be explored to organize summer programs in Istanbul for Yarmouk University students and academic staff, as well as summer programs in Jordan for students studying Arabic at our University.

The agreement was finalized following a series of discussions between Prof. Dr. Malek Alsharairi, President of Yarmouk University, and Dr. Ibrahim Helalşah, Director of the School of Foreign Languages and Director of the Arabic and Turkish Language Teaching, Application and Research Centers at Istanbul 29 Mayıs University. During this process, the academic priorities of the two universities and the areas of activity of the School of Foreign Languages, ARÖMER, and TÜRÖMER were brought together within a comprehensive framework for cooperation.

Dr. Ibrahim Helalşah stated that cooperation with an institution with a strong academic background such as Yarmouk University would help advance the successful work carried out by our University in Arabic and Turkish language education to a higher international level. He noted that the agreement would create new opportunities for students, researchers, and academic staff, emphasizing that joint programs and academic activities would further strengthen relations between the two universities.

The agreement is expected to mark the beginning of sustainable and productive cooperation that will lead to joint educational programs, scientific studies and research projects, and increased student mobility between the two universities.
